Synopsis:
Fishing boats are disappearing in the ocean off an Island called 'Oto Island'.
The inhabitants there claim a giant God is the cause of it all. They call their supposed God 'Godzilla'.
After Japanese officials spot the creature on Oto Island, they set out to destroy Godzilla by dropping depth charges in the ocean where they located him using sonar. He is supposidly killed and the city of Tokyo celebrates... until Godzilla crashes the party by showing up in Tokyo bay. He sets fire to the city and he finally leaves, after decimating almost 90% of the city. He is later put to rest by a new invention called 'The Oxygen Destroyer'.

My Thoughts:
'Godzilla: King of the Monsters' has to be THE greatest giant monster film ever made. As a child, I was always enthralled by monster movies, and I remember the very day I first witnessed Godzilla terrible nuclear wrath. It was a pretty warm day in Alden, New York State. I'm certain it was August, and my dad had taken my family out to get a bite that night, and he stopped at the movie store. I wanted to rent 'Jason Takes Manhatten'... but seeing as how I was only 6, that didnt go over to well. My dad instead picked up the store's copy of 'Godzilla: King of the Monsters'. Seeing the monster towering over a building on the cover, I was more than delighted to get that. That night, after my parents finished watching some silly love story with Tom Hanks in it, I popped in Godzilla. I was all alone in the dark, ready to see a movie I thought would be 'neat'. I was dead wrong. That was the movie that altered the very coarse of my life. Those 78 faithful, city stomping minutes hooked me on Godzilla fandom for life. I watched it 3 times after that, falling asleep halfway into the movie the third time (it was 2:50 in the morning... a personal record for me then.). The next day, my dad took me in to get the second one, Godzilla Raids Again.' I've never turned my back to a Godzilla movie since (except for that craptastic re-make 'GINO'.).

G:KOTM opened my eyes to the world of Japanese monsters, and I'm glad it did. KOTM has very good SFX, even for it's time. It's FX are superior to some of the later films even. The story is dark and menacing, and the charactors are well played. I highly recommend this classic to anyone, of any age. There is nothing to censor from this movie, except for some images of Godzilla stompin on some poor Japanese citizens.

RATING:
I give it out of .
